A trio of old models

A trip to the local hobby shop yielded a few surprising finds.  Truly, the consignment case can be a treasure trove of old and rare figures.  Today I managed to find a pair of interestingly painted, very old, and very out of production Chaos Raptors for 40k.  There were also some old metal Cadians (that looked like Vietnam GIs), metal Cadian Kasrkin Storm Troops, and a pair of old metal Inquisitorial Storm Troopers.  The Raptors definitely caught my eye.  They're funky.  One dude has a bird motif to his armor, the other has a bunch of faces all over him.  Their paintjobs weren't very good, though I did find the color scheme to be an interesting choice.  They're a sort of copper and gold.  The Inquisitorial Storm Troopers also caught my interest.  Unfortunately, there were only the two.  One was a sergeant with a Plasma Pistol (he originally came packed by himself) and the other was a sergeant with a power sword (who originally came packed with a set of five guys).  Since the power sword dude was A)missing the rest of his squad and B)wasn't wearing a gas mask, I chose the plasma pistol guy.  Here's how they looked when I got them home.
Whoever had previously owned those Raptors clearly had them for a long time.  The way their bases were flocked was how GW recommended doing it waaaaaay back in the day.  Also, the wings broke off of the guy on the left.  At first I couldn't tell what he was armed with.  The previous owner painted it like a plasma rifle, but upon closer inspection, it appears to actually be a flamethrower.  Since I kind of like what had been down with their colors, I think I'm going to try and maintain the copper/gold scheme.  The guy with all the faces will be interesting to paint.

And, since the Storm Trooper is unpainted, I decided to have a go at him tonight.  I had literally just placed the final washes onto him when I took this picture.
It's a little hard to make the details out right now, especially since the lighting is bad and he's all wet and glossy from the wash.  There's still a few more details I want to touch up, too.  He's got a desert camo scheme I borrowed from a poster on Dakka Dakka (the Lamb's World troops).  I think I probably should have used a lighter grey than what I did on him though.  Oh well.  If I ever get any more, I'll have to try it again.

I'm having difficulties making this post.  Google keeps saying I'm logged out when I'm not and is screwing everything up.  So, I'll try and keep it short.

I got the last of my current Menoth clergymen finished tonight.  So, now all I have left to do for them is repair the third singer from my choir set.  He needs a new left arm since the original owner must have somehow lost it.  That's a project for another night though.

Tonight, I got my Hierophant all finished up.  I'm not sure about his scroll cases though.  I was going for a sort of jade look for them, but I don't think it was terribly successful.  It'll have to do for now.  Anyway, here's the Hierophant in all his glory.
And here he is with my Attendant Priest and my Choir of Menoth.

I really like how my Attendant Priest came out, but without any mercenaries in my force, he's kind of useless to me.  So, he just gets to look cool.  I'll probably wind up using him as a wizard in A Song of Blades and Heroes.

There's one more piece of clergy left that I want to pick up though, and that's the Covenant of Menoth.  Apparently it's a must-have unit.  That combined with my Choir and possibly the Hierophant can make for a pretty obnoxious force since the Covenant and the Choir both add buffs to the combat units and the Hierophant can heal units as well as reduce the cost of the Warcaster's spells.  Not to mention he can also increase the range of the Warcaster's spells.

I do have one other figure to show:  my Flameguard Cleanser.
I think he came out pretty good.  There's one more guy that came with him, but I haven't finished painting him yet.  I'm not sure if they were supposed to have one or not, but these guys didn't have a unit card with them.  As such, I won't be able to actually use them in the game.  Shame.

Some more Infinity figures

I just got done working on these two new figures.  I think they still need a little cleanup before they're ready.  Basing is to come after they get dipped.
I decided to go with something of a more desert-y look for the Morat.  The Alguacil continues the theme from my Hellcat, going for sort of a racing vibe.  I'll probably eventually be putting numbers onto their backs.
Here's the Nomads I've got all together now.  They're looking fairly uniform yet each unit type having their own look.

some more Infinity figures

Got done with a couple more Infinity figures.  A Muyib for Haqqislam and an Alguacil for the Nomads.

more singing

I got a bit more work done last night on my Choir guys.  One more to go and the team will be complete.
And here's my two backup singers with their boss, who I have cleaned up a bit.  Yesterday I also managed to pick up a couple of new Menoth figures to go with these guys.  I got an Attendant Priest and a couple of Flameguard Cleansers.  None of them are really going to give me a tactical edge in battle, but they're neat looking figures that will be useful in a Song of Blades and Heroes.

Something else I worked on last night was one of my Hasslefree Hazmat troopers.  I got these guys last month as a gift, spray painted them yellow, and haven't worked on them since.  I finally worked up the courage to get one of them started.  Unfortunately, I think I did the spray a little too thick and lost some of the details.  The guy I worked on probably got the worst of it as the rest still look pretty sharp.

As you can see though, he turned out fairly decent.  I'm going to be basing him as well, but that won't be until after I've dipped him.  And, as you can see, I actually managed to pull off the gem effect decently for once!  Hopefully the rest of his team will come out that well.

Choir Practice

Last weekend I splurged a bit and bought a Choir of Menoth set on Consignment from the local hobby shop.  It was only $10, so why not?  I started working on the leader of the group tonight...
I applied a black wash to him just a bit ago.  I'm going to touch him up a bit before I send him to be dipped.  I'll redo the robes so they're more white and less filthy looking.  I'm also going to add more purple to his helmet because as I have it now, it looks like it's a skull and comes across kind of weird.  I think he looks pretty good though, if I do say so myself.

That's about it though.  I started base coating his crew, but they're nowhere near close enough to completion for me to take pics of them.  So, I'm going to go spend the weekend with family and my dog.  No painting this weekend, though I may get in a game of Song of Blades and Heroes.
